Buttermilk

Isn't it a pain to be in the middle of a recipe and realize you are missing one, important ingredient? Eggs...salt... flour... these are most likely things you always have on hand. However, buttermilk isn't necessarily as common. You need that buttermilk for that fluffy consistency. What most people don't know is how simple buttermilk is to make. It involves only a couple ingredients... literally.

Pretty much it goes like this: buttermilk is just a curdled milk process when a certain amount of acidity is reached in the milk -- not too little, not too much. So, for every 1 cup of  milk, 1 tsp of distilled vinegar or lemon juice is stirred in.

Ingredients:

1 cup Milk (whatever kind you want... buttermilk is used purely for texture)
1 tsp distilled vinegar (white) or lemon juice

Process:

1) Mix both ingredients together lightly with spoon.
2) Let sit for 5-10 minutes. You will notice it curdle slightly.
3) All done! Use in your recipe.

Happy baking,
