Washington D.C.'s Georgetown Cupcakes vs. Sprinkles

On my last trip to Virginia, my cousin Zachary took me to Georgetown and there were cupcake bakeries everywhere; we checked out two of the most popular: Georgetown cupcakes and Sprinkles.

Georgetown cupcakes
Georgetown Cupcake  was founded by two sisters, who have a series on TLC called DC Cupcakes. Their desserts are delicious, the flavors are vast and their products are as cute as a button. The staff was very friendly, but didn't seem to know too much about the cakes, when I inquired about them. Either way, there was a HUGE line, at one point, out the door. They have 3 locations.

Sprinkles cupcakes

On the other hand, Sprinkles was founded by Candace Nelson -- judge for Cupcake Wars, one of my favorite reality shows. Their cupcakes are also delicious -- bigger than Georgetown's, with less flavor choices. However, their staff was definitely knowledgeable about the cupcakes, being able to answer every question I had, with a smile. Plus, they have 11 locations.

I tried 4 cupcakes from each place, and honestly, there was no question which I liked better, purely on taste. **** Drum roll ****

I prefer Sprinkles. Hands down.

Sprinkles cupcakes cost about a dollar more than Georgetown's, but they are about a third larger in size, have the best butter cream frosting, the texture is way fluffier than Georgetown's, and I absolutely LOVED their flavor combinations, even though Georgetown had more to choose from.

If you take a trip to Sprinkles, don't pass up their Black and White, nor their lemon. You will thank me.

Trust that I am not knocking Georgetown cupcakes. They are wonderful too -- but SOMEONE has to better... right?

Stay sweet,

--Chels
